I. Purpose & Scope

To safely and effectively provide instruction on the inspection and proper use of screwdrivers.

II. Definitions

Standard PPE – High Viz Garment, Hard Hat, Z-87.1 Safety Glasses, Gloves, Pants, Work Boots.

III. Process

NOTE: Work instruction does not supplement the manual. For specific instructions for the exact model please refer to the owner’s manual.

C. Inspection

1. Check for mushrooming, rust, bends and dings.

D. Use

1. Examine the head of the screw or fastener to match it to the correct screwdriver.
2. Insert the tip of the screwdriver into the head of the fastener to verify it securely fits.
3. Grasp the handle with your dominant hand and the tip with your other as close to the head of the screw as you can. Apply enough force to turn the screwdriver clockwise to tighten the screw and counterclockwise to loosen it.
4. Keep the shaft of the screwdriver aligned with the shaft of the screw as you tighten or loosen.
