B. PPE

  • Standard PPE
  • Hearing Protection
  • Face Shield
  • Respiratory Protection – Recommended

C. Inspection

  1. Check oil levels daily (prior to every operation). The oil level is correct when it reaches the middle of the sight glass.
NOTE: Oil level can only be checked with the machine stopped & level with everything sitting for at least 5 minutes.
  2. Check filter for damage or if it is fouled beyond cleaning.

D. Use

Blower Engagement

  1. Engage the park brake on the truck.
  2. Make sure the vacuum break is OFF.
  3. Depress service brake.
  4. Turn on Power Take Off switch. A light should illuminate for PTO on the dash when it is engaged.
  5. Turn on isolation valve.
  6. Make sure 4 way valve is set to vacuum.
  7. Turn blower switch on at the control panel.
  8. Throttle engine RPM to operating speed.
  9. Close the vacuum breaker.

Blow Disengagement

  1. Open vacuum breaker.
  2. Idle the engine down.
  3. Turn blower switch off at control panel.
  4. Depress the service brake.
  5. Turn off the Power Take Off.
  6. Release service brake.

Water Pump

  1. Open the water tank supply valve.
  2. With the dig wand pointed in a safe direction and the water blast valve closed engage the water pump drive by remote, or by dial on the panel.
  3. Open the water blast valve to start digging.

Boiler

  1. Turn ON the boiler switch on the boiler control panel, and select desired temp.
  2. Proceed to dig as normal and the boiler should start on its own when heat is needed.
  3. When you’re going to stop digging, shut off the boiler before shutting off the dig want and continue running the water through the dig wand until the water coming out has cooled off.
    • If you do not follow these steps and the boiler has just gone through a heat cycle shutting off the water will cause the water in the boiler to turn to steam. This can not only damage the water system, it can rupture hoses and cause severe injury and burns to the operator. Check the water temperature to verify.

SVS Boom

  1. Turn on hydraulics. Operate the SVS boom either by remote or manual controls.

Dump Door

  1. Turn on hydraulics.
  2. Operate the dump door either by remote or manual controls.
  3. Ensure door seal is not obstructed by debris before closing.

Tank Hoist

  1. Turn on hydraulics.
  2. Hoist will not operate until boom is set in outer boom rest and the Hoist Enable light is illuminated.
  3. Operate the hoist by the manual controls located in the rear compartment.
  4. If required, operate the tank prop using the pneumatic control located in the rear compartment.
  5. For road operation, return boom to the inner most rest position (closest rest to tank), otherwise alarm will sound.

Wireless Remote

  1. Turn on the remote ON/OFF switch located on the main control panel and wait for 3 seconds.
  2. Turn on One handheld remote On/Off switch.
  3. Use control as required.
  4. When applicable, green On/OFF must be depressed and held down to use any of the second function buttons.
  5. If the boom hasn’t been moved for more than 10 minutes, the remote automatically shuts itself off, which also causes the water to shut off.

E. Maintenance

  1. Clean filter daily. When the vacuum power is running down, clean the filter.
    • Remove the filter form its housing and flush it completely using a garden hose.
NOTE: Do not use the spray nozzles form your hydrovac as the high pressure may tear the filter material.
    • Allow filter to completely dry overnight if possible.
    • Re-install the filter, making sure the filter is properly seated in the filter housing. If it is not properly seated, particles may be allowed to get past and cause severe damage to the blower.
  2. Clean out Cyclone at least daily or more frequent if needed.
  3.  Drain all water from the tank daily in cold weather to prevent freezing.
  4. Drain all water form tank once per week, even in warm weather. This will keep gunk, sand, rust, etc. out of the bottom of the tank.
  5. Check rock head deflector plate weekly for wear damage.
  6. The bearing at the base of the boom requires grease weekly.
    • To grease the bearing, locate the grease nipple on the turret bearing.
    • Attach the grease gun and start pumping grease.
    • While pumping the grease, rotate the boom around to the drivers side.
    • Once the boom reaches the driver side, swing it back around the truck to the boom rest.
NOTE: You should be pumping grease this whole time.
    • Once the boom is back to the rest the bearing greasing is complete.
NOTE: The turret fitting grease point (inside tank) requires excess grease – sometimes up to half a tube.
  7. Periodically grease (at least weekly) all pivot points and roller on the boom.
  8. Periodically grease (at least weekly) all mud door pivot points.
  9. Periodically grease (at least weekly) all drive line u-joints
  10. Periodically grease (at least weekly) all slip joints.
  11. Grease the chassis according to manufacturer’s specification.
  12. All fluids are to be filled to center of sight glass or top line of dipstick.

F. Live Line Contact

  1. Immediately stop work.
  2. Treat equipment, attachments and ground as energized.
  3. Warn people nearby that an electric strike has occurred.
  4. DO NOT exit equipment and stay inside cab while contact or arcing is occurring.
  5. Ensure equipment is barricaded.
  6. If there is an immediate hazard (i.e. fire hazard) that requires the exiting of equipment employee shall jump out of equipment with both feet together, landing on the ground.
  7. Employee shall than shuffle away from equipment, not walk or run, taking small steps and feet together to minimize voltage difference in the ground until they reach a safe location.
