
I. Purpose & Scope
To safely and effectively provide instruction on the inspection and proper use of hydrant hoses, adapters and wrenches.

Standard PPE – High Viz Garment, Hard Hat, Z-87.1 Safety Glasses, Gloves, Pants, Work Boots
III. Process
NOTE: Work instruction does not supplement the manual. For specific instructions for the exact model please refer to the owner’s manual.
A. Potential Hazards

C. Inspection
- Inspect for damage, degradation, and rust.
- Inspect for tears and wear spots on the hose
- Inspect for bends, or damaged threads on the hydrant wrench and adapter.
- Inspect for dirt, debris and rust on fire hydrant.
D. Use
- Place hydrant wrench on discharge outlet and adjust threads on handle to provide tight grip on bolt.
- Turn hydrant wrench counter clockwise to remove the discharge outlet cap.
- Attach the hydrant wrench to the water valve and turn clockwise to allow water to discharge and clear any debris. When clear turn the hydrant wrench counterclockwise to close the water valve.
- After cap is removed, insert fire hose adapter.
- Attach hydrant wrench to the adapter and turn clockwise to tighten the adapter.
- Attach fire hose and turn clockwise until tight.
- Attach hydrant wrench to water valve.
- Turn hydrant wrench counter clockwise to release water valve.
- Adjust the valve on the hydrant to control water pressure.
