I. Purpose & Scope

To safely and effectively provide instruction on the inspection and proper use of elbow pullers.

II. Definitions

Standard PPE – High Viz Garment, Hard Hat, Z-87.1 Safety Glasses, Gloves, Pants, Work Boots

III. Process

NOTE: Work instruction does not supplement the manual. For specific instructions for the exact model please refer to the owner’s manual.

A. Potential Hazards

C. Inspection

1. Inspect for damage or wear. 

D. Use

1. Insert hook through eye on elbow. 
2. Close down grippers on elbow by rotating pole. 
3. Support tool with one hand on front grip behind handguard and other hand on slide hammer. 
4. Slide hammer from front to rear anvil. 
5. Resulting impact should release elbow with sufficient momentum to withdraw it from bushing without extended arcing. 
6. To install an elbow connector follow the same procedures except use slide hammer impact against front anvil to help seat the elbow.
