I. Purpose & Scope

To safely and effectively provide instruction on the inspection and proper use of compaction wheels.

II. Definitions

Standard PPE – High Viz Garment, Hard Hat, Z-87.1 Safety Glasses, Gloves, Pants, Work Boots

III. Process

NOTE: Work instruction does not supplement the manual. For specific instructions for the exact model please refer to the owner’s manual.

A. Potential Hazards

  • Moving Parts Hazard
  • Crushing Hazard

C. Inspection

  1. Ensure the quick hitch pins have the retaining bolts and washers and they are correctly fitted.
  2. Check for debris in the quick hitch locking mechanism and check the fit of the unit on the quick hitch, do not use if not secure.

D. Use

  1. Select relevant size pins to match your machine’s quick hitch.
  2. Fit front pin to correct sized hole.
  3. Adjust the position of rear pin to suit the quick hitch.
  4. Attach the compaction wheel.
  5. Move the arm back and forth in straight lines, maintaining even pressure where possible, to achieve the most even and consistent compaction.
  6. When compaction wheel is no longer needed, release from the quick hitch.
  7. Use integrated stand to store upright when not in use.

E. Maintenance

  1. Grease bearings before each use.
