C. Inspection

  1. Inspect that bed is clean and ready to use.
  2. Ensure all unit’s fluid levels are adequate.
  3. Ensure that there are no loose or missing parts and that all parts are securely fastened.
  4. Check for visible leaks and excessive wear.
  5. Inspect all structural members for cracks, excessive corrosion and other damage.
  6. Check u-joint connections.

D. Use

Automatic Transmission Operation

  1. Stop the vehicle. Engage the vehicle brakes. DO NOT engage the parking brake at this time.
  2. Shift transmission to any drive position. This will stop the transmission gears from turning.
  3. Engage the PTO. If the PTO does not engage fully, disengage the PTO, release the vehicle brakes, move the vehicle slightly and repeat the above steps.
  4. Shift the transmission into neutral (N). This will start the gears rotating again.
  5. For stationary operation, apply the parking brake and then release the vehicle brakes.
  6. Get out of the cab to manually release the tailgate. Remove the chain and push the latch down to unlock the tailgate. If air operated tailgate is applicable, unlock tailgate by pulling air valve on shift tower up.
  7. To raise the bed, push the lever forward, or to the “Up” position. You can now release the lever. The bed will stop automatically once it has been fully raised.
NOTE: If you want to stop the bed at any point, simply move the lever back to the center position.
  8. To lower the bed, pull the lever rearward, or to the “Down” position. Once the bed has made fully contact with the truck chassis, push the lever back to the center position.
  9. When dumping is complete, disengage the PTO by moving the PTO switch back to its original position. The indicator light will go off.
  10. Get out of the cab to manually secure the tailgate. Push the latch up to lock the tailgate and re-secure with chain. If air operated tailgate is applicable, lock tailgate by pushing air valve on shift tower down.

Manual Transmission Operation

  1. Stop the vehicle. Engage the vehicle brakes. DO NOT engage the parking brake at this time.
  2. Disengage the clutch by pushing it to the floor and shift transmission to neutral position. Wait for the gears to stop rotating.
  3. Pull up on the lock sleeve around the PTO lever and pull the lever to the engaged position.
NOTE: If you encounter resistance when you first try to engage the PTO, let out on the clutch slightly until PTO engages, then push it back down. This enables the gears of the PTO to align with the gears of the transmission. When the PTO is engaged the indicator light will come on.
  4. Let out on the clutch to engage the PTO.
  5. For stationary operation, leave the transmission in neutral, apply the parking brake, and release the clutch.
  6. Get out of the cab to manually release the tailgate. Remove the chain and push the latch down to unlock the tailgate. If air operated tailgate is applicable, unlock tailgate by pulling air valve on shift tower up.
  7. To raise the bed, push the lever forward, or “Up” position. You can now release the lever, the bed will stop automatically once it has been fully raised.
  8. To lower the bed, pull the lever rearward, or to the “Down” position. Once the bed has made full contact with the truck chassis, push the lever back to the center position.

E. Maintenance

  1. Clean body after each use.
  2. Check all bolts and connections for tightness.
  3. Check fluid level.
    • Retract any cylinders in order to check both hydraulic and oil fluid levels.
    • If the fluid covers less than half of the fluid level sight glasses, fill the hydraulic tank with proper fluid.
